So lockdown....the very first day into lockdown I honestly thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown! Both my partner and I are self employed so I was worrying about our income, paying the bills, will business return to normal and when?

My eldest son has a January birthday. The second worst month to have a birthday after December (in my opinion anyway). What do you buy someone who has just been showered with gifts 3 weeks earlier?

While every labour is different, hypnobirthing has been credited as a natural way of preparing the body for labour. But for those who haven’t heard of hypnobirthing, or attended hypnobirthing classes, what is this peculiar technique all about?

Last week Victoria and I travelled to Sheffield to have training with two of the countries leading photographers in maternity and newborn photography.

On the 10th January we had the pleasure of welcoming Kelly, Emma and beautiful baby Evie into our studio for their newborn photoshoot and with their permission we can share their amazing story about their little miracle.

So we got to thinking, what holds people back from booking a newborn photo shoot? What stops people from capturing this amazing time that will be gone in the blink of an eye? What do they worry about? These are some of the worries we hear a lot, and of course the reason why you should not worry!

With the permission of Kelly & Lyndsay we get to share this amazing story with you all. We were introduced to Kelly through her sister Lyndsay who brought her beautiful little boys Oliver & Sam for us to photograph. During the session Lyndsay told us she was a surrogate for her sister and she was sure Kelly would love to book one of our newborn shoots. Lucky for us she did and we got to meet gorgeous baby Elsie and hear their amazing surrogacy story.

When Steph contacted us about a family and baby shoot for her brood we were fully booked so were unable to carry out our usual newborn shoot. There is a debate about when a newborn is 'too old' for a newborn shoot and for us that is around 4 weeks.

When we got the message from Kaye and John asking us to photograph their twins we were over the moon. Having grown up next to John all our young lives we were honoured that when looking for their newborn photographer they chose us. Not knowing what sex the babies were we were eagerly waiting for updates so we could buy some matching props and something christmassy with them being December babies.

I am sure a lot of you have seen our Facebook post advertising a free photo shoot. This was for us to practice a few poses that are a little more difficult to master. Our ultimate goal is to be the best newborn photographers in the Lake District, Cumbria, and to do this we need to practice, practice practice! A free photo shoot allows us to focus on getting those poses right without worrying about getting a full gallery for mam and dad.

Newborn photo shoots are lovely, we truly adore having little cuddles, dressing the little bundles up and making beautiful photos for parents to adore forever, who wouldn't love that! Yeh, seriously this is our job, please don't hate us. In 6 short months you wouldn't believe the difference it makes in your little one's life, they have developed a character, attitude, likes and dislikes and we love nothing better than capturing that for you.

When Georgie arrived in our studio, we hit it off immediately, he was so gorgeous and so content with the best 'hair do' ever and we loved every minute of his shoot. When the little man arrived for his baby photos he needed a little feed and we were more than happy to oblige, whilst chatting away, I think we could have sat there talking all day.

When our clients come to us for a maternity session we are thrilled. We get to capture one of the most special times of their lives. A new beginning. We had the pleasure of photographing Nina & Ryan and their bump. They were still Nina & Ryan, not Mammy or Daddy, they were yet to find out who this little child would be who would change their lives forever! Then along came Chiara. The most precious little beauty with lots of dark hair & big brown eyes. Absolutely perfect.

Sometimes we actually can't believe how quickly time goes, it doesn't seem like five minutes since we photographed Seb at his Newborn shoot and here he is with his 1st Birthday Cake Smash. As we know his mammy we asked if we could try something a little different and we were so pleased when she agreed.

We first met the McCallig family last year when we photographed their gorgeous little girl Chloe who was 2 at the time and her aunty Sophie who was 4. Chloe wasnt too impressed with the studio and having her photo taken wasnt on her list of exciting tings to do that day! But we will not be defeated! we pulled out every trick we had and got some stunning photos of the girls!

So our little people have turned three can you believe it, this means they are starting nursery. We do miss them so decided on our day off from newborn photography and nursery to have a dress up day.

Well the Nikon D800 has landed! We took our boys on the beach to try it out and boy were we excited! It is an amazing piece of kit! Along with our new Tamron 70-200 2.8 lens we were able to create some gorgeous images, definitely helped with the fact we have the most beautiful models! haha we are biased!
