Life in Lockdown
So lockdown....the very first day into lockdown I honestly thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown! I had a million things going on in my head, I had to message some of our amazing clients and tell them I wouldn’t be able to photograph their maternity shoot, I would have to postpone their newborn session and it was honestly heart wrenching! Both my partner and I are self employed so I was worrying about our income, paying the bills, will business return to normal and when? Then to top it all off I had become a teacher to not 1 not 2 but 3 children! My brain was fried! I actually went out for a run! Yes a run! I hate running but I just needed to get away from it all for an hour. It took a good week for us to all settle in to lock down life. I quickly realised I did not have the patience to teach! My 13 year old does maths homework even I can’t understand! Luckily he has managed pretty well with his work but the younger two needed a little more guidance! I made the decision within that first week that having a happy home life with me not being a total stress head was a much better plan than trying to force the kids to do school work all day so they do a couple of hours every morning and then the rest of the days we have spent baking, walking, sunbathing, watching lots and lots of movies (were making out way through the avengers movies...still!) the kids have made dens and camped out in the garden. We have had family games of cricket which usually ends in Caleb having a meltdown when he doesn’t win haha. We have been a family. Before lockdown life was pretty hectic and this has made most of us slow down and really appreciate the important things in life!
Our minds soon started to get a little bored so we decided to learn and practice our videography skills. Check out our Facebook page for Sams video of her gorgeous gang during lockdown. We have a lot more to learn with this but we’re excited about the possibilities.
Seeing so many people coming together to help each other, the marvellous NHS workers and care workers, our very own Mam being one of them made us want to give something back. We had a few requests for lockdown doorstep photos so we decided we would do this to raise money for hospice at home west Cumbria. We walked miles all over Maryport visiting hundreds of doorsteps, seeing lots of lovely familiar faces and raised an amazing £2300. In tough times our community has really come together to support each other, it’s wonderful to see.
The guidance from the government seems to be changing at a rapid pace and we are now allowed to photograph outdoors, some Of our clients are choosing to switch to an outdoor shoot and we can’t wait to see them! As for studio sessions and hands on newborn photography which is our main passion we hope that this will be allowed come July and we’re currently redesigning our whole studio to allow for better social distancing and also to provide a better experience and something a little different. Watch this space! We are missing those baby snuggles so much!
Check out the guide below which is a reminder of some of the measures that we are implementing to make things safe once the studio reopens
We hope you are all keeping safe and well and look forward to capturing those ever so important memories for you soon x
